Packaging and Unboxing
OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 comes in big black rectangular box . You Can see the Big Half of the “R” on the left edge of the box which is the Initial of the Revo . On the box You can the picture of the SSD and also some major features are mentioned on the front of the box .
On the back side of the box , There is a brief description of the OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 on the left top side . And the Capacity of the SSD is mentioned on the back side which is 240GB in this case .
Frankly Speaking , After i opened the box and pull out another box . I was very happy with the type of package they done with this particular SSD . After opening the box another box is taken out . Which also has the same design as the top box had . You have to slide out the the SSD out of this box . This looks quite elegant .
Their are not much accessories included in the box , Because as it is PCIe SSD so you dont have to get in any hassle to plug SATA Data Cable and Power Cable to connect this . Also note that this is not just normal SSD you use in your Laptops or in Desktop . This is categorized as workstation SSD in OCZ website . This is one expensive SSD but also fastest on planet which you will see in our Benchmarking Section in this Review .
You Will find the following items when you open the packaging ,
- OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 Max IOPS 240GB PCIe SSD
- User Manual
- Driver CD ( Which has to be used if you want to install this SSD for the first time as boot drive )
- OCZ SSD Sticker
Closer Look at the SSD
As we mentioned in the start that this SSD is PCIe and so you have to plug this SSD in PCI express slot available on your motherboard. But Note that the PCIe slot should be running on atleast 4x bandwidth/speed and you can not install this SSD on PCI slot . The SSD has a kind of matte feeling on the PCB of it . There are two PCB of the SSD on which Chips are placed along with the SandForce controller . You can clearly see the 2 Sandforce controller on the Top PCB of the OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 .
There is Internal RAID Controller located at the bottom of the heat sink , Which automatically setup the drive in RAID configuration . Also You can clearly see in the picture that there are two layers of the PCB . One is at top and the other is beneath it . Also you dont need any power cable to power this up because all the power should come from the PCIe slot . So this mean that even the bit of time which is taken by data to transfer to CPU/SSD via cable is removed .
As it is a Sandforce driven SSD , There are two Sandforce controller chip which are placed on the top PCB of the SSD as well as on the bottom . Also you can see the storage chips which i guess they are of Toshiba as it is also mentioned on it . There are large number of chips on the Top PCB as well as at the bottom PCB which stores your data in it .
Benchmarking and Testing
The rig we will be using today for testing OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 Max IOPS 240GB PCIe SSD is ,
- Intel Core i7 2600K CPU
- ASUS P8Z68 V PRO
- 8GB 1866Mhz Patriot Memory RAM
- OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 Max IOPS 240GB PCIe SSD ( OS )
The results for ATTO Disk Benchmark , Crystal Disk , HD Tune , AS SSD , IO Meter are below .
In the End ( Conclusion )
In the End , All we have to say is that this particular OCZ SSD is one of the fastest SSD on the planet . You have seen other SATA SSD which can hardly achieve 400MB/s read speed but this SSD is capable of even going much higher than this as seen in the benchmarks results . Moreover, Keep in mind that this is not a cheaper SSD as you think . This is expensive as compared to normal SATA SSD and the storage maybe less as well . But if you are enthusiastic and really want extra high speeds than SATA SSD then you can buy and put it in your Computer .
We are very happy with this product , The Performance of this product is amazing. The windows boot time is surely decreased to its lowest limits also if you have load a ton of programs in your startup like Antivirus , Browser and other stuff . Trust me it wont even let you see the desktop and will run every startup application in just 1 second and you will be stunned surely .
We are pleased and proud to announce that OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 Max IOPS 240GB PCIe SSD receives award for the fastest SSD tested on this platform and also for its extraordinary performance , built quality and technology .
