A Closer look at the TS-469L
This is one of its own kind NAS .Although the design of this particular NAS is almost same as it was of QNAP TurboNAS TS-419P II but there is no Display screen on the front of this NAS which is one thing i demand . Note there is power button on the front side to power on your TS-469L. Below the power button there is copy button and within that button there is USB slot . This actually copy data from USB to HDD when you plugin the USB and press the copy button , which is very nice . Also on the front side , There are 4 hot swappable HDD or SSD trays . You can easily slide them out and install SSD or HDD in it and then slide it back . That’s All …
As you can see there is small sticker of Intel Atom On the very top of the NAS which confirms that there is Intel Atom Dual Core processor installed inside the NAS which is responsible for handling all those applications .
On the back side of theTS-469L , All the necessary I/O ports are placed . On the top you have HDMI Port and VGA Port for Maintenance . Below it there are two USB 3.0 Ports. There are 2 Gigibit Ethernet Port to plugin your Ethernet Cable . Along the side of Gigabit Lan Ports there are 4 USB 2.0 Ports . Right below these ports there are 2 eSATA ports .Also you have power connecter at the Top left with a small 90mm fan to keep things cool inside . There is another fan in the middle of the backside to keep components inside cool . Note there is slot for kenningston lock at the bottom
On the side of the NAS , There is nothing beside a small ventilation for better airflow .
When we opened this NAS to look what components are installed in this NAS , First we found that there is compact power supply which powers the component upto 250W max . On the left side of the power supply the main board of the NAS in installed on which the processor chip and the RAM is placed. In the below picture you can see that on the outer side of the board there is a free slot for RAM module so you can extend the RAM by installing 1Gb or 2Gb module . But note that it should be 1333Mhz and it should be SODIMM not normal DIMM modules.
There are 4 trays available for mounting your storage . You can easily tight any SSD or HDD onto the tray with the provided screws and then slide the tray inside the slot and lock it in . And you are ready to go …
User Interface of QNAP TurboNAS TS-469L
The user interface of the TS-469L is same as it was of QNAP TurboNAS TS-419P II . So I am going to revise the same thing so all of you there who have not read our TS-419P II review could get how the UI of TS-469L looks like .
After the complete setup and installation of the NAS , You can access your NAS via any browser . In Order to access your NAS you have to use its IP address along with 8080 Port . You can change the Port if you want to . The default Username and Password is “admin” .
There are ton of menus on the main screen as you can see . Administration , Webserver ,Multimedia Station , Photo Station , Music Station , Download Station and File Manager can be accessed by clicking on them .
After accessing the administration menu , You would see ton of features inside which you can play with . But it is better to read instruction before doing anything which will keep you on safe side . You can create users , groups ,shared folder , enable/disable services and much more in this menu according to your need.
The download station of the NAS gives you full control to download Torrent or Direct HTTP to your NAS . You have to add the download link or the torrent file and then it will start downloading even if your Computer is turned off . It is quite a good way to download all your torrents as it consumes less power than a medium build computer .
The Web File manager is the core of the NAS . It is the place where you can access your all files stored on your NAS. You can move , Copy or delete the files if you need to . Note that in order to make the new folder . You have to go to the Shared folder in Administration . Also each folder is protected by the rights given to each user . If you want to use all folders you must have read and write rights , Which is again configured in Administration Menu .
Note that if you dont want to use the Web file manager , you can always use the good old FTP client to access your storage of NAS . This keeps you away from getting into the browser and entering the IP address just to download a small file .
You can see the major difference between QNAP TurboNAS TS-469L and QNAP TurboNAS TS-419P II is the hardware installed inside the NAS . There is Dual Core processor with Hyper Threading technology installed inside the 469L . Also there is 1GB RAM installed in it but you can extend the RAM by installing 2 GB module upto 3GB . This NAS uses SODIMM which are used in Notebooks.
Benchmark and Performance
Note that the Computer Desktop does not make a big impact on the performance of the NAS , But just for the sake of review the rig is below .
The rig we will be using as Dekstop for testing QNAP TurboNAS TS-469L is ,
- Intel Core i7 2600K CPU
- ASUS P8Z68 V PRO
- 8GB Kingston HyperX Predator
- OCZ RevoDrive3 x2 Max IOPS 240GB PCIe SSD ( OS )
In the End ( Conclusion )
Well In the end , All i have to say that QNAP TurboNAS TS-469L is our new king of NAS at TechTipsnReview . Everything from top to bottom is made perfect so that this NAS run perfectly in every environment whether its home or office or large scale . There are some things which were missing in particular model . I was expecting the small display screen in this model but there is no such display for QNAP TurboNAS TS-469L . Also i was looking for the One Touch Copy USB 3.0 Port but it is not yet available in this model . I hope all these flaws would be covered in next models .
Now with the good parts of this NAS , This NAS is powered by Intel ATOM Dual Core Processor along with 1GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM which make a perfect combination for fast performance as you can see in the benchmark . The results of the Benchmark are about 80-100% more than the previous model which is TS-419P II . Also the extra ports of USB 2.0 and the addition of HDMI and VGA port for maintenance is another great thing . Also it allows us to expand the RAM according to our need . The QNAP TurboNAS TS-469L is all about the Speed and Performance which allows your working environment never to lag or slow .
