3 ways to switch between User accounts in Windows

How to quickly switch between user accounts on Windows operating system? This is a question that I receive very often but have not had time to write detailed instructions for you.

Because actually the way is very easy, so I just need to walk through a little bit and you can do it right away. However, having to frequently answer one question is boring and takes a lot of time.

In this article I will guide you how to do it on all popular operating systems today that are Windows XP, Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10.

Method 1: Use keyboard shortcuts

On all Windows operating systems, we have quick shortcuts to do this. To quickly switch between user accounts in Windows using keyboard shortcuts, do the following:

Perform:

  • Press the key combination Windows + L => select Switch User => select the account you want to enter.
  • Or press a combination of keys Ctrl + Alt + Del => select Switch User => select the account you want to enter.

Method 2: Manually for each Windows operating system

2.1. On Windows XP operating system

Perform:


Click the button Start => select Log Off as shown below.

The next window appears, choose Switch User.

At this point, the User account will appear on the computer screen, which account you want to access, then click on it.

2.2. On Windows 7 operating system

Perform:

2.3. On Windows 8 and 8.1 operating systems

Perform:

You press nút Windows on the keyboard to switch to the Start Metro screen, or just go to the right edge of the screen to open the bar Charms Bar and press the button Start as shown below.

Display Start Metro appears, click the User account that you are using. At this point it will bring up the other User accounts available on the computer for you to choose from.

2.4. On Windows 10 operating systems

Perform:

On Windows 10, we can do it faster. You just need to press the button Start => click the User account that you are using => select the account you want to log in to.

Method 3: Create a Shortcut to switch between Users (Switch User) on Windows

In addition, there is another quite fast way that you can create a Shortcut on the Desktop to perform quick switching between Users.

Perform:

Right-click on the desktop -> select New => select Shortcut as shown below.

Next, copy this path to the Type the localtion of the item:

C: Windows System32 tsdiscon.exe

Then press Next to continue.

Name the Shortcut, for example I will name it Switch User => press Finish to complete.

Now you have a shortcut icon on your desktop. To switch back and forth between users, double-click on this file and select the desired account.

Note: To add an icon for an icon, right click on the icon you just created => select Properties => At the Shortcut tab, please select Change Icon... and choose the icon you want.
