To use Google Meet you need to meet the mandatory requirements from Google for your G Suite account, operating system or Website version for your computer or phone.

Requirements to access Google Meet

  • The Google Suite account administrator needs to create Meet for your organization. If you can’t get into Meet, contact your administrator for help.
  • To create a video meeting with Google Meet, you need to sign in to your G Suite account.
  • To join a video meeting, you need the Google Meet mobile app or a supported web browser. You don’t need a G Suite account.
  • Anyone inside or outside your organization can join by selecting the link or entering the meeting ID. Uninvited people outside of your organization must be approved by the meeting creator in your organization, including users who are signed in to their G Suite accounts.

Video meeting requirements with Google Meet

Before you start an online meeting with Google Meet, make sure your device supports Google Meet:

Allow Google Meet to use your camera and microphone

Before you start using Meet, you need to allow access to your computer’s camera and microphone.

Allow access to Camera and Microphone the first time you use Meet:

  1. In the browser, go to Google Meet homepage
  2. Select Start a new meeting
  3. Select Allow

Change settings to allow access

If you did not request access or if you have previously blocked access, you can change your settings.

  1. In the browser, go to Google Meet homepage
  2. Select Start a new meeting
  3. In the upper right corner select Camera blocked
  4. Select Always allow https://meet.google.com to access your camera and microphone.
  5. Select Done. Video meeting automatically connects. If you don’t see the meeting reload, exit and re-enter the meeting.

Hardware and network requirements

For Video Meetings, you need:

  • A broadband connection to the internet.
  • A built-in web camera or an external USB camera.
    Note: Other devices, such as virtual cameras, may not work with Meet.
  • 2 GHz Intel i3/i5/i7 processor, AMD equivalent or better, HD video support.

Limited participants

The maximum number of participants you can have in a video meeting depends on your G Suite version.
