Compare iPad mini 6 and iPad mini 5

Apple finally released a long-awaited upgrade to the iPad mini at its event in September. The latest model is the sixth generation of Apple’s smallest tablet and since its introduction. First introduced in 2012, it has been completely redesigned, with Touch ID and more.

If you’re wondering what’s new with the latest iPad mini and whether it’s worth the upgrade, Quantrimang.com will review the main differences between iPad mini 5 (2019) and iPad mini 6 (2021) in the article. down here.

Design

Design is often the main factor to consider when choosing to buy a tablet. Users want their devices to look modern, instead of using an outdated design. The iPad mini 5 has thin bezels at the top and bottom, with the same familiar design as the first iPad. Thankfully, the iPad mini 6 has been completely redesigned.

The new tablet has a flat back and sides, crafted from 100% recycled aluminum. This updated design looks perfect when compared to its larger siblings, the iPad Air and iPad Pro – all of which have similar designs.

The thick bezel has been replaced by a smaller, uniform bezel that looks much better. Knot Home has also been dropped and Touch ID has been moved to the . button top, which we also saw on last year’s iPad Air.

The result of these changes is that the iPad mini 6 is about 7.8mm shorter and 7.5g lighter than the iPad mini 5. The device is also 0.2mm thicker, but that probably won’t be as noticeable.

Screen

One benefit of reducing the bezels of the new iPad mini 6 is that Apple was able to include a larger screen in the device. iPad mini 6 has an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2266 x 1488 pixels and a pixel density of 326ppi. In contrast, the iPad mini 5 only has a smaller 7.9-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2046 x 1539 and the same pixel density of 326ppi.

Both models have a maximum brightness of 500 nits, anti-fingerprint coating, are fully laminated, and feature True Tone.

Performance

An iPad doesn’t just look good, it has to function well, too. With that said, the previous iPad mini was no less competitive. It has Apple’s A12 chip (same as the iPhone XS), which works great with the latest games and creative apps.

The iPad mini 6 has an all-new A15 Bionic chip, similar to the new iPhone 13 series. This makes the iPad mini 6 the most powerful tablet Apple has to offer, after the iPad Pro models that support the M1. The latest mini tablet has a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU, which means it won’t be affected by any graphics-heavy games or applications.

Apple claims the new processor setup is more efficient, promising “all-day battery life”. No detailed battery capacity statistics have been published; however, Apple’s website projects this to be “up to 10 hours of web browsing over WiFi”, as with the iPad mini 5.

The latest version of the iPad mini also offers stereo speakers, compared to the mini 5’s one-sided audio, which should provide a better audio experience when watching movies and videos.

Camera

Tablet cameras are not as commonly used as mobile phone cameras, but they can be useful when you need to take a quick snapshot or scan a document. Likewise, the front camera will always be useful for video calls, especially when the world uses Zoom as ubiquitous as it is today.

Fortunately, Apple has upgraded the camera on the iPad mini 6. The previous generation had an average camera: The main camera is 8 megapixels, while the FaceTime camera on the front is 7 megapixels. For the iPad mini 6, the resolution of both cameras has been upgraded to 12MP.

The front camera has an ultra-wide lens that can record 1080p footage at a smooth 60fps. It also has a 122-degree field of view, paired with a smart feature Center Stage by Apple to recognize faces, zoom and pan automatically to intelligently keep them in frame.

The rear camera has a wide-angle lens, with a larger f/1.8 aperture that improves low-light performance and offers flexibility for greater depth of field. The camera can also record 4K footage at up to 60 fps. The trade-off is that the camera lens is no longer horizontal to the case but protrudes above the surface.

Connection

Apple has made some connectivity changes with the iPad mini 2021. First, the headphone port – which has been removed from most other Apple devices – is finally removed from the iPad mini 6. However, the iPad mini 5 still maintains this jack.

The charging port of the iPad mini 6 has also changed from Lightning to USB-C. That means connecting to a multitude of accessories is easier, and you don’t need any more proprietary Lightning adapters.

You can also charge your iPad mini 6 with any USB-C charger, which is an easier option than before. Similarly, if you’re a photographer, you can easily back up your photos directly from the camera to your tablet using the USB-C connector. The possibilities are endless.

The mobile version of the iPad mini 6 is also faster than the previous generation. The latest mini has 5G connectivity, which is an upgrade over the iPad mini 5’s LTE connectivity. While 5G is only available in a few countries around the world, it will certainly be useful for those users. having permission to access.

The iPad mini 6 also supports the second-generation Apple Pencil, which magnetically connects to the side of the tablet, just like the iPad Pro and iPad Air. This is also how you pair and charge your Apple Pencil. iPad mini 5 only supports the first-generation Apple Pencil, which is charged using the Lightning connector.

Colors, storage options and prices

iPad mini 6 comes in 4 different colors: Space Gray, Pink, Purple, and Starlight. The new colors look more beautiful and varied than the previous generation.

The latest iPad mini also costs more than the iPad mini 5. The iPad mini 6 starts at $499 for the base 64GB WiFi-only version, compared to the iPad mini 5, which costs $399 with the same specs.

There is no 128GB version. So if you want to increase your storage, you’ll need to pick up the iPad mini 6 256GB WiFi, for $649. If you want to use the mobile version, prepare more money.
