Features removed from Windows 11

Besides launching new features, Windows 11 also kills some features of Windows 10. “When upgrading to Windows 11 from Windows 10 or installing Windows 11, some features may no longer be available or removed”, Microsoft stated.

Here are the details of the features that are no longer available on Windows 11:

  • Cortana will no longer be included in the initial startup experience or pinned to the Taskbar
  • Background can no longer be transferred between devices when signed in with a Microsoft account
  • Internet Explorer disabled. Microsoft Edge is the recommended alternative, equipped with IE Mode
  • Math Input Panel removed. Math Recognizer will install as required and includes both the math input recognizer and control. This change doesn’t affect math in apps like OneNote
  • News & Interest Upgraded to Widgets, adding some new features.
  • Quick Status from the Lockscreen and related settings are deleted
  • S Mode Only available on Windows 11 Home
  • Snipping Tool continues to exist, but the old design and functionality of the Windows 10 version will be replaced by features of the Snip & Sketch application.
  • Start menu There are major changes on Windows 11 including the following limitations and removals:
    • App-named folders and groups will no longer be supported and the layout cannot be resized
    • Pinned apps and websites are not preserved after upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11
    • Live Tiles removed, replaced with Widget
  • Tablet Mode removed
  • The functions of Taskbar Changes include:
    • Knot People no longer appear on Taskbar
    • Some icons may no longer appear in the System Tray for upgraded devices, including previous customizations.
    • Taskbar locked at the bottom of the screen, can’t change position
    • Apps can no longer customize the space on the Taskbar
  • Timeline removed. Some similar features will be available on Microsoft Edge
  • Touch Keyboard no longer able to attach and unmount the keyboard layout on screens 18 inches and larger
  • Application Wallet removed
  • The following apps won’t be removed when upgrading, but are no longer installed on new devices or when installing Windows 11 from scratch. They can only be downloaded from the Microsoft Store:
    • 3D Viewer
    • OneNote for Windows 10
    • Paint 3D
    • Skype
