Basically, moving or copying the entire content of a Google Sheets sheet is not too different from what you may be familiar with when working on Microsoft Excel. Only Google sheets will support a little less options.
To duplicate a sheet in Google sheets, you can include it in a new or existing spreadsheet, depending on your actual needs. Find out below.
Copy to a new sheet
First, click the arrow button in the corresponding tab of the sheet you want to copy (at the bottom of the screen). Then move your cursor to the option Copy to (Copy) and click “New Spreadsheet” (new sheet) in the menu that appears.
After a few seconds, you will see a message pop up, indicating that your sheet has been copied successfully. You can click “Open Spreadsheet” to access it directly or “OK” to open it later.
Copy to an existing sheet
Similarly, you look at the bottom of the screen and click the arrow button in the corresponding tab of the sheet you want to copy. Move the cursor to the Copy to option and click “Existing Spreadsheet” (Existing sheet) in the menu that opens.
When the Drive window appears, it lists all the existing sheets that you store in Google Drive. Select a sheet that you want to copy to.
Press “Select” at the bottom of the screen and the data will be copied to the sheet you selected.
Once the copying is complete, you will see a message pop up, with the option to have the copy open the sheet immediately or open it later.
Also, when you copy content from one sheet to another, the sheet’s name will be labeled “Copy of...” (Copy of…) in front of the original sheet name.
Make a live copy of a sheet
If you want to copy a sheet and keep it in the same workbook. Or in other words, to make a copy (clone) of a sheet, just do the following.
First, click the arrow button in the corresponding tab of the sheet at the bottom of the screen.
In the menu that appears, click “Duplicate” (Replication).
This places a copy of the existing sheet to the right, labeled “Copy of” before the original sheet name.
Above are the basics you need to know about the copy sheet feature in Google Sheets. Wish you always have the best experience!
