- Add a blank column next to the first and last name columns by right-clicking at the top of the column, selecting Insert.
2. Select the Data tab.

4. Select “Text to columns” as shown below.

6. Uncheck the Tab box and tick the Space box as shown.
7. Select Finish.
8. Edit the title of the two columns of first and last name information that have just been separated.
Note: Hyphenated compound phrases are treated as a single word by Excel, so it separates the compound phrase by hyphen. For example, “Lee Kwang-soo” is a two-word name but “Yoo Jae Suk” is a three-word name, even though both are pronounced with three syllables. If the list contains the first and last name information including 3 words, 4 words or more, the number of empty columns you need to add in step 1 will increase accordingly.
