This can be done on Office 365 PowerPoint as versions PowerPoint 2010-2016.

You’ll insert a GIF into your presentation as an image. GIF images need to be downloaded first.

  • Step 1: Go to the slide you want to insert the GIF on. At that slide, click on the tab Insert and select the icon Picture:

  • Step 2: In the window Insert Picturefind and select the GIF you want to use and press OK.

That GIF needs to be in your computer’s storage or cloud storage like OneDrive. In other words, it needs to be saved somewhere your computer can access.

  • Step 3: Once you have inserted the GIF image into the slide, you can move and resize it if you want.

The GIF image will not play while you are in this mode. If you want to make it work then you have to use the Slide Show feature.

  • Step 4: To play the GIF, click on the tab Slide Show and click on From Current Slide:

Insert GIF as a video

This can be applied to PowerPoint 2007.

You will insert a GIF image into PowerPoint like the steps above, but instead of selecting the Picture icon, you must select the Movie icon included in PowerPoint 2007.

  • Step 1: Click on the tab Insert then select the icon Movie. You can choose insert option Movie from File or Movie from Clip Organizer:

Insert GIFs from the internet

If you don’t have a suitable GIF for your presentation, you can look it up online. Sources like GIPHY offer millions of different GIFs for you to choose from.

After you have found a GIF image you like, you can download it to your computer and follow the instructions above. However, if you want to save time, you can use the online GIF finder available in PowerPoint.

  • Step 1: Go to tab Insert and icon Icons (beside Shapes).

  • Step 2: Select the icon you want in the gallery. You can move the position and change the size of the icon.
