What is TPM?

How to install Windows 11 without TPM 2.0

As mentioned, installing Windows 11 without TPM requires a few registry entries. The easiest way to bypass Windows 11’s TPM check is to try to install Windows 11 via ISO or an insider program.

Then follow the steps below if you get the message This PC can’t run Windows 11 (This computer cannot run Windows 11).

1. Press Shift + F10 to open Command Prompt and run command regedit.

2. Add new key in key Setup.

In Registry EditorNavigate to Computer HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM Setup. Right click on the folder Setup in your widget bar and select new > Key.

3. Name the key LabConfig and add DWORD new.

After naming your folder, you can create a DWORD by right-clicking on any empty space in the main pane and selecting DWORD (32-bit) Value.

4. Name the value BypassTPMCheck and set the value data to 1.

It is important that capitalization and spelling are exactly the same. You can modify the value data by double clicking on your new DWORD and changing the textbox Value data. Press OK when you are done to save the changes.

5. Create another DWORD named BypassRAMCheck.

Again, make sure the capitalization and spelling are exactly the same as above.

6. Change the value data to 1.

Remember, you can access the value data field by double-clicking the . key BypassRAMCheck. Press OK to apply.

7. Create a new DWORD named BypassSecureBootCheck.

8. Change the value data of SecureBootCheck to 1 and press OK.

9. Close Registry Editor and hit the back button when setting up your Windows 11.

You will find the back button in the top left corner.

10. Install Windows 10 on your unsupported hardware.

You can now go through the setup process as usual. Your installer will no longer tell you your PC is incompatible.

Create Windows 11 installation USB to bypass TPM . check

You can use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool with a script-based tool Universal Media Creation Tool wrapper (Universal MCT wrapper) to automatically download Windows 11 from Microsoft’s servers and create an ISO file where the TPM check has been dropped.

If you want to use this ISO to dynamically upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 from a running system, you will also need to enable TPM bypass shown in the method below.

1. Download and extract the Universal MCT program.

Download the program Universal MCT from GitHubextract the ZIP file and run MediaCreationTool.bat.

2. Click 11 to choose Windows 11.

3. Select Create ISO or Create USB depending on your preferences.

Create USB will automatically create a bootable USB stick that can be used for a fresh install of Windows 11.

4. Wait until the Media Creation Tool finishes downloading Windows 11

After the Windows 11 download is complete, the Media Creation Tool will automatically close and the Universal MCT wrapper will create an ISO/USB that will allow Windows 11 to be installed without TPM.

5. Wait for the Universal MCT to complete.

6. Use ISO/USB to install Windows 11 without TPM.

You can find the ISO for installing Windows 11 without TPM in the Universal MCT main directory.

7. Install Windows 11 without the Trusted Platform Module.

You use the ISO/USB to install Windows 11 without TPM-check on your PC or as a virtual machine with VMware, Virtualbox or Hyper-V.

How to upgrade TPM from 1.2 to 2.0 for computers

If your PC can’t upgrade to Windows 11 due to unsupported CPU or your device only has TPM 1.2 instead of TPM 2.0, you can fix that quickly.

Just apply the following registry edit to add a bypass for CPUs and TPM 1.2 is not supported.

1. Open Regedit.

2. Navigate to the folder and check the existing DWORD.

Use the address bar to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetupMoSetup and check if DWORD AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU is there?

If it is missing, right click in the right pane, select new > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name the new DWORD AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU.

3. Edit DWORD AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU.

Double click AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPUimport first enter Value data and save with OK.

Should you update to Windows 11 for an unsupported machine?

Despite what Microsoft’s Windows 11 compatibility tool might tell you, installing Windows 11 without TPM is pretty straightforward.

All it requires is to set a few registry entries or use a script-based tool to trigger a Windows 11 TPM 2.0 bypass.

Before doing so, however, you should consider that TPM 2.0 is used to power many of Windows 11’s security features.

This includes secure boot, Windows Hello, SecureBIO, WD System Guard, and Device Health Attestation. When you run Windows 11 without the TPM chip, you won’t have access to these features and therefore put your data at more risk.

If possible, we recommend that you install the TPM 2.0 module separately or wait and upgrade your hardware. It’s likely that Windows 11 will just rely more on TPM in the future, and we can’t guarantee that Microsoft won’t disable this feature in the future.
