Remove unnecessary screenshots and images

Unnecessary data such as screenshots and text messages will not be automatically backed up. Google Photos is set up by default to not automatically save secondary images like screenshots or social media photos.

However, you can still free up space by deleting screenshots if you’ve manually set it to autosave.

1. From your Library tab, tap Screenshots album (or any album you want to delete) under Photos On Device.
2. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner, then tap Delete device folder to quickly delete the entire album.
3. You can also long-press any image, then tap more images that you want to delete.

Accordingly, you can search the video album for all the videos you have saved, from there you can delete the clips that take up unnecessary space. Or you can search for the Places section and delete all the image files related to this place, for example.
