This guide applies to all computer operating systems and browsers. Take a look at the following:

• Sign in to your Google account (using the Gmail address you want to delete).
• Go Google Account Settings (Manage Google Account).

• Click the link Download Data to download full copies of your emails via Google takeout.
• Enter the secondary Gmail address you used when creating your Gmail account. The alternate email address you enter here will become your new Google account username.

Note: make sure you enter an email address that you have access to. You need an email address to finish deleting your Gmail account.

• Click Send Verification Email (Send confirmation email).

• Open email from Google ([email protected]) with the subject “Security Alert for your linked Google account” or “Gmail deletion confirmation”.
• Follow the delete link in the message.
• If prompted, sign in to the Gmail account you’re deleting.
• Under Gmail Delete Confirmation, Select Yes, I want to delete …@gmail.com permanently from my Google Account (Yes, I want to permanently remove …@gmail.com from my Google Account).
• Click Delete Gmail (Delete Gmail).

Note: you cannot undo this step. After you click this, your Gmail account and mail will be gone.

Note after deleting Gmail account

After deleting Gmail permanently, the messages will be deleted permanently. You will no longer be able to access that Gmail address. In case you downloaded a copy with Google Takeout or used an email program, you will still be able to view these emails.
