[Tricks] How to extract Ghost file (.GHO) on a standard UEFI computer

Normally, which standard Ghost file, we will extract Ghost for that standard computer. For example, Ghost files created from LEGACY standard computers (in .GHO, .TIB format) can only be extracted on computers running LEGACY and the hard drive format is MBR.

In contrast, UEFI standard computers can only extract 64-bit Ghost versions, made from computers running UEFI standards and formatted as GPT hard drive. And as of the time I write this article, most of the UEFI ghosts are formatted as TIB (made from Acronis True Image) or TBI (made from Terabyte).

However, in this tutorial I will share more techniques for you using LEGACY standard ghost version on computers running UEFI standard. In other words it is Extract the ghost .GHO file on the UEFI standard computer using Onekey Ghost software combined with the AOMEI Partiton Assistant partition management tool.

I. What needs to be prepared?

And to perform this technique, you need to prepare yourself in advance some of the following essential tools.

  1. A 64-bit Ghost (.GHO): In this tutorial I will use the 64-bit Win 10 ghost.
  2. A USB BOOT rescue: In this tutorial I will use the USB boot of Hoang Kiem.
  3. UEFI BIOS setup.

II. How to extract Ghost MBR on UEFI standard computers

+ Step 1: After accessing Mini Windows (I use Mini Win 10 64bit) => open the Onekey Ghost software. The interface is as shown below.

+ Step 2: You set up to extract ghost as shown below.

  1. Choose Restore (Rehibilitate).
  2. Check the box Ghost64.
  3. Press the button Browse (Open ….) => Choose to save the Ghost file (you do not leave the ghost in a folder with Vietnamese accents).
  4. Select the partition that needs GHOST, usually the drive C.
  5. Press đồng ý to begin.

+ Step 3: This step, please remove all the 2 options:

  • Reboot.
  • Fix boot errors

=> Click Yes (Yes) to start performing ghost extraction.

+ Step 4: The ghost extraction process is going on, please wait … ..

+ Step 5: After the ghost is finished, there will be a notice as shown below. You click NO to refuse to restart the machine. Because if you reboot, you cannot continue to boot into the Windows desktop.

+ Step 6: Now open the software AOMEI Partiton Assistant out.

+ Step 7: Now we will use AOMEI Partiton Assistant to convert the hard drive from MBR to GPT, which is a must if you want to use a standard UEFI computer.

This software will help us to shink out a boot partition EFI automatically.

Perform:

  1. Right click Basic MBR (the hard drive containing the operating system).
  2. Selection Convert to GPT.
  3. Press OK to agree to perform.
  4. An alert appears, choose Yes.

You can rest assured in this software, all data on data partitions will remain intact and not affected at all.

Then, to apply it, continue as follows:

Press Apply To apply changes => select Proceed => select Yes to agree.

……… and finally choose OK is done.

+ Step 8: After the conversion is complete, you can see that there will be an additional BOOT EFI partition in FAT32 format,> 100 MB. This is the UEFI standard boot partition.
