What to do when iPhone or iPad won’t turn on?

The iPhone and iPad, like any other technology, are not perfect. If you pressed the . button Power (Power button) and the screen doesn’t turn on or you see an error message, don’t worry too much. You can make it reboot normally.

The instructions here should make any iPhone or iPad bootable and working properly. If it doesn’t, then there’s a good chance that your device has a hardware problem and that’s what’s preventing it from booting up.

Plug the device in, let it charge and wait

The screen won't turn on

Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch may not turn on if its battery is dead. Generally, you’ll see some sort of “low battery” indicator if you try to turn on your iOS device when it doesn’t have enough battery life. However, once the battery is dead, the device will become unresponsive and you will only see a black screen.

Connect your iPhone or iPad to a wall outlet and let it charge for a short time – about 15 minutes. If the battery is completely drained, you cannot plug in the charger and expect it to respond immediately. Let it charge for a few minutes and then the device will turn on by itself. This should fix the problem on your device if its battery is completely drained.

Make sure your charger works if this method doesn’t work. A damaged charger or charging cable may prevent power from entering the device. Try a different charger and cable if you have one.

Hold Power + Home button to perform Hard Reset

iPhone and iPad can freeze completely, just like other computers. If this is the case, the . button Power and Home won’t work. Do a “hard reset” to fix this. This is traditionally done by removing the device’s battery and reinserting or unplugging the power cable on devices that don’t have a battery, which is why it’s also known as a “power cycle”. However, iPhones and iPads do not have removable batteries. You can use the button combination instead Power + Home to restart your phone or tablet.
