The newly released iOS 16 version is claimed by Apple to be able to help users use Face ID even when rotated horizontally. However, according to information on Apple’s homepage, the horizontal Face ID feature is only supported on some iPhone versions.
At the WWDC 2022 event, Apple introduced the iOS 16 update with many improvements for iPhone users. And one of the new features this time that Apple is still teasing is that users can use Face ID even when the phone is in landscape mode.
Since it was first introduced on the iPhone X in 2017, the Face ID feature has always required users to place the phone vertically in the same direction as their face to unlock. However, with the iOS 16 update, Apple has allowed users to unlock with Face ID even when placing the device horizontally with Landscape Face ID mode.
On the homepage, Apple only introduces a basic line about this feature. Accordingly, Face ID works in landscape mode only supported on some iPhone versions. However, the feature is compatible with which iPhone versions is not mentioned by Apple.
According to some tests of early users, it is likely that Landscape Face ID will not work on iPhone 12 series and below. It seems that this feature only supports models from iPhone 13 and above.
However, the fact that this feature works on older iPhone models or not, users still need to wait until the official iOS 16 update is released.
