5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Use Discord

In the mid-2010s, we saw the rise of VoIP software – Discord in particular was dominating this market rapidly.

Originally intended for gamers, Discord has evolved into more than just a gaming room. You can find a community about every aspect of life imaginable. However, Discord still has its flaws and here are 5 reasons you might want to reconsider using the platform.

1. Discord free version has upload limit

For avid Discord users, the most annoying feature is the meager upload limit. The free Discord version offers an 8MB upload limit.

Although this upload limit increases to 50MB if you subscribe to Discord Nitro, it’s still a big deal for regular Discord users. You can choose to compress the file, but that option will reduce the image quality significantly.

You can also choose the option Always Compress Images to ensure that the file is completed even if it exceeds the upload limit of 8MB. But this feature has a limitation: you cannot compress files or images larger than 200MB.

You can also choose Auto-compress Images. Go to section User Settings > Text & Images and make sure the toggle is on. Again, however, this feature has its own limitations. You can only enjoy crystal clear images if you are a Nitro user.

2. Free version has limited functionality

Another reason you might want to think about using the alternative is that the free version of Discord is a bit limited. From audio quality below 64kbps to limited customization options, many users find that there are many better options out there.

Here are some limitations of the free version:

• Limited live streaming capabilities: The free version of Discord only offers video playback up to 720p at 30 FPS.
• Personalized server: You can only customize your URL and add an avatar if you are a Discord Nitro user.
• No server boost feature: Server boosters on Discord can temporarily upgrade your server, but they are only available if you choose a monthly paid subscription to Discord Nitro.

3. Security issues

When using social networks, security should be a top concern. Unfortunately, however, Discord has failed in this regard more than once.

Discord has been linked to a number of security issues in the past. For example, several cases of Phishing and ransomware have taken place on this platform.

Due to cybersecurity threats, many users have deleted their accounts and switched to platforms they feel are more secure.

4. You must provide a phone number

If you value privacy, you won’t be happy to learn that you can’t sign up for Discord without a personal phone number.

Discord started deleting accounts that don’t have a linked phone number in 2019. And if you’re locked out, you’ll have to add an account number to get back into the platform.

Many users on Discord’s forums cited privacy concerns as a reason not to give out their phone number. Meanwhile, others expressed frustration at not being able to log into their accounts again without a phone number.

5. Discord may delete your account without warning

When using any social networking platform, you are subject to the provisions of the provider. they can delete your account for any reason. Discord is no different.

Once Discord deactivates your account, you are allowed to file a complaint. However, doing so does not guarantee that you will get your account back.

If you choose to use Discord, keep this fact in mind and consider what you will do if the account is permanently deleted.
