How to add music to stories and messages on Snapchat

With Snapchat’s Sounds feature, you can choose popular songs or even create your own to insert short videos. How to do it is not complicated.

First, launch the Snapchat app on your iPhone or Android smartphone. Then, take a photo or record a video by touching or holding the circular shutter icon at the bottom of the home screen.

Here, tap the button of music note on the right side of the screen.

A menu with three columns of options will appear. Column “Featured”(Featured) first will be a selection of popular songs selected by Snapchat.

Column “MoodThe second “(Mood)” contains a list of tracks selected to reflect the various emotional states the user may have. We’ll cover the third column shortly.

You can press the play buttons (triangle) to listen to each track, then tap on a song to add it to your snap. At the bottom of the screen, select a specific segment of the song you want to play by dragging the sound wave left or right until the position you want. For photos, the maximum music playback duration will be 10 seconds. For videos, the music playback will be equal to the video’s duration.

(However, Snapchat’s music library is limited to a limited number of licensing partners so the amount of available music isn’t really rich. Also, the platform doesn’t offer a search function either – a pretty shortcoming. big).

Now you can add additional elements to complete your snap, then hit the “Send To”In the lower right corner to send it to your friends or make a story.

The last column, titled “My Sounds”, Allowing you to create and save your own music and audio tracks. Please click on the icon “+“.

When you are ready, tap the microphone icon once to start recording and press again if you want to stop recording. Alternatively, you can also long press to start recording and release to stop. Your tracks can be up to 60 seconds long.

Note that for copyright reasons, you should not re-record a popular song. If Snapchat detects copyrighted music from your recording, a pop-up will block the recording.

When it’s done, you’ll be taken to a preview page to add finishing steps. Give your track a title and choose whether to make it public. When made public, other snapchat users can also access your music.

Finally, use the preview window again to trim your clip as needed.

Save your track to add it to the column “My Sounds“
