How to delete “Frequently Visited” on iPhone

Each time you browse the web using Safari or Google Chrome on your iPhone, a record of the web pages you visit is stored for future use. One place this history is used is in the Frequently Visited browser, displayed every time you open a new tab. But if you’re concerned about privacy or want to clear your history, you can delete items in the Frequently Visited of Safari or Most Visited of Chrome.

Websites you visit while browsing in Private or Incognito mode are not saved to sections Frequently Visited or Most Visited.

How to delete frequently visited websites

Presented as thumbnails with their respective titles on the website, easy access to these places can be beneficial. Conversely, this can also be a potential privacy concern when a shared device is present, as well as a nuisance if the list contains sites you no longer need.

Sites appearing in sections Frequently Visited and Most Visited on Safari or Chrome browsers can be deleted at the same time.

1. Open Safari or Chrome browser.

2. If necessary, open a new tab first. To do so, tap the . icon Tabs, then tap the plus icon (+) at the bottom of the screen in Safari or the . icon New Tab from the pop-up menu in Chrome.

3. Screen New Tab will now display, with the Favorites at the top and Frequently Visited located just below it in Safari. In Chrome, the most visited websites show up below the search bar.

4. Long press the icon for the website you want to remove from the section Frequently Visited. On newer models like the iPhone X, a pop-up menu will appear. Click Delete on Safari or Remove on Chrome.

5. On older models like iPhone 7, you may need to press Delete directly above the icon in question.

How to disable Frequently Visited Sites in Safari

You can prevent new websites from appearing in the Frequently Visited of the Safari browser by disabling the feature altogether.

1. Go to Settings > Safari.

2. Tap the toggle switch Frequently Visited Sites so that it goes from green (enabled) to white (disabled).
