With the arrival of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, Apple introduced an optional new camera feature in iOS 13, designed to let you adjust the alignment of photos and videos without the need for a custom camera. must be cropped.

Basically, when you take a photo or video with the wide (wide) or telephoto lens (on the 11 Pro series), the camera simultaneously captures or records with the next widest sensor. So the wide lens works when you shoot with the telephoto lens and the ultra-wide lens works when you shoot with the wide lens.

With this feature enabled, you can take a photo, press Edit in the preview window, click tools Cropthen select Straighten and you will be able to use the area captured outside of the photo or video frame to correct the horizon and improve the composition of the photo without cropping it.

The toggle switches that control this behavior can be found in the app Settingsunder Camera > Photos Capture Outside the Frame and Camera > Videos Capture Outside the Frame.

Apple has disabled this feature by default for photos, so you’ll need to enable it yourself to take advantage of it. Note, however, that the feature is enabled by default for videos, so you may want to disable it if your iPhone or iCloud storage space is what bothers you. Another note is that if the area around the frame is not used for editing, it will automatically be deleted after 30 days.
