What is Smart Switch?

Samsung Smart Switch is an application that seamlessly transfers contacts, photos, music, videos, messages, notes, calendars, etc. to almost any Samsung Galaxy device.

Whether your old phone is an Android, iOS, BlackBerry, or Windows Mobile device, upgrading to a Galaxy smartphone is seamless with Smart Switch.

It helps move everything important from contacts to messages, photos and videos to music, calendar events, even device settings to your apps. All of them will be available on your new Galaxy phone so you pick up where you left off.

You can transfer data from your old phone to your new Galaxy phone via a USB cable, WiFi, or a computer. Choose the method you feel most comfortable with!

What conditions are required to use Smart Switch?

For PC

To transfer content using Smart Switch on PC, you will need:

1. A Samsung mobile device with Android operating system version 4.3 or higher.

2. Old equipment that meets one of the following requirements:

• Samsung devices with Android version 4.3 or higher
• iPhone with iOS version 5 or later

3. Windows platform with the following minimum requirements:

• Operating system: Windows 7 and above
• CPU: Pentium 4; 2.4GHz or more
• RAM: 512MB or higher
• Screen resolution: 1024 x 768 (600), 32 bit or more
• Required software: Windows Media Player version 11 or later

For Macs

To transfer content using Smart Switch on Mac, you’ll need:

1. Samsung mobile devices with Android operating system version 4.3 or higher

2. Old equipment that meets one of the following requirements:

• Samsung devices with Android version 4.3 or higher
• Apple iPhone with iOS version 4.2.1 or later

3. Mac platform with the following minimum requirements:

• OS macOS X 10.9 or later
• CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz or higher
• RAM: 512MB or higher
• Screen resolution: 1280 x 800
• Android file transfer app installed on your computer

For mobile devices

Android devices

• Wireless transmission: Android 4.3 and above
• Wireless transfer from compatible Android device to Galaxy device: Android 4.3 or later (Note that non-Samsung devices with Android version lower than 6.0 can only connect to Galaxy devices that support Mobile AP)
• Wired transmission: Android 4.3 or later, charging cable and USB connector

iOS devices (use the option that works best for you)

• Wired transfer from iOS device to Galaxy: iOS 5.0 or later, iOS device cable (Lightning or 30 pin) and USB connector
• Import from iCloud: iOS 5 or later and Apple ID
• Transfer to PC/Mac with iTunes: Smart Switch Software for PC/Mac

BlackBerry devices

• Wireless transmission: BlackBerry OS 7 or 10 (Mobile AP)
• Wired transfer from BlackBerry device to Galaxy: BlackBerry OS 7 or 10 for USB connection

Windows Mobile

• Wireless transmission: Windows 8.1 or 10 . operating system

Applicable Samsung devices: Galaxy S II and newer devices running Android 4.0 or later for wireless transfer and Android 4.3 or later for OTG cable transfer.

Note for Galaxy S8/S8 + S7/S7 edge owners: Smart Switch Mobile comes pre-installed on your device. To access, tap [Settings] > [Backup and reset] > [Open Smart Switch] to open Smart Switch Mobile.
