Manually add video subtitles using VLC

Sometimes VLC can’t find your subtitles, so you’ll need to download the subtitle file manually on your Android device. Thankfully, you can search for video subtitles on Google.

Some popular websites that allow you to download subtitles for videos include Opensubtitles.org, Subscene.com and Podnapisi.net.

After downloading the subtitle file, do a search on your Android device and open it, it may have a .srt or .sub extension. If it’s a ZIP file, you’ll need to unzip it first.

Once the file is already on your Android device, follow these steps to upload the file in VLC:

  1. Open your video in the VLC app, tap the screen to show the buttons on the screen.
  2. Click play button in the bottom left corner. Then, expand the menu Subtitles and click Select subtitle file.
  3. Go to the location of the file .srt or .sub and choose it. Subtitles will be added to your video so you’ll be ready to watch it anywhere.
